Happy Valentine’s Day from Gina McLean Photography and Amilee Photography

January is the slow time of year for most wedding photographers.  While waiting out the drought, sometimes we get together to collaborate on a project just to keep the creativity flowing.   Last week, my good friend Amy Propst,  of  Amilee Photography , and I  decided to get together to work on her greeting cards for Valentine’s day.   While I  specialize in  mostly wedding and portrait photography,  Amy focuses more on fine art,  nature,  and greeting cards.   She enjoys using my studio lights and I like seeing the end result of her projects.   Below are a few of my favorites from our efforts.  She  shot these using the background of my red kitchen with white sheers, her art objects, and pro lighting.  My only contribution was in the editing process.

Currently Amilee Photography’s  images are available for purchase at Bailey’s Fine Jewelry in Raleigh, Rocky Mount, and Greenville, NC; Quail Corners Pharmacyin Raleigh, NC;  Cedar Creek Gallery in Creedmoor, NC; The Lemon Tree in downtown Wake Forest, NC, and Bella Anne Boutique in Hampstead, NC.

Visit her website for more information on how to purchase.

Downtown Raleigh stuff

I keep thinking that I need to post more personal pictures on the blog. Because, in my mind,  the off-the-job pictures are more of a statement who I (and Gina) really am. In a recent marketing seminar, the speaker was encouraging the audience to bring forward the person that’s behind the “business”. I couldn’t agree more with that. I guess the theory behind it is that a potential client has a better feel for who you are in the real world. Gina and I try to go places where “something’s happening” as much as we can (while raising kids, being a family etc.). Most of the time they are community events like SparkCon, the International Festival , and many times they coincide with a wedding shoot (Hey, I’m not complaining). I do enjoy these outings, because they give me a chance to play around with the (or new) photo equipment, there’s no time pressure, it’s all fun. These following pictures where taken at the last SparkCon Festival Downtown Raleigh (for last years SparkCon pics click here), right before it started raining and our daughter Anna was complaining about being cold, it was very windy and I believe it was the first cold day after the summer.  I had a radio triggered speedlite with me, but since I didn’t pack a post (I was too lazy to haul it around) I just placed the flash on the ground for these few shots.

Les Mills Launch event

Gina and I got to photograph the Les Mills launch at the Lifestyle Family Fitness gym on Plantation Drive here in Raleigh. Every 3 month or so, Les Mills launches a new release of their workout programs with new songs. I was looking forward to experiment a little with our equipment, we had ample time to get any pictures in. It started with 50 spinning bikes quite early in the morning. The spinning, called RPM, was one of two launches happening inside, the other being BodyFlow (Yoga). Since Gina has been a regular in  the RPM class, she started to kick my butt whenever we’d go ride our bikes on the Raleigh Greenways. The other two segments where held outside, called BodyPump and BodyCombat. The trainers put out 100 “workstations” , and  at least 90 of them were occupied. The weather could not have been better, I was glad I had brought enough lights to counter the bright sunlight. Wanna know a secret? I was sore the next day! Here are a few pictures we took on this beautiful Saturday morning.

International Festival Raleigh

Hey,

I just wanted to share some pictures I shot at the International Festival this past weekend. I’m embarrassed to say that this is only the second time that I , the Swiss, have been visiting this venue. The event was held at the newly finished Raleigh Convention Center. The two main attractions in my opinion, and probably in many other festival goers too, are the dances and the  food. There are, off course, the country booths with lots of different artifacts. The kids had a whole corner filled with attractions and crafts to themselves. Marcie, the balloon fairy, was there along with her unicycle riding friend, Kenny.  I also ran into Kaci and Katie with Acro Entertainment again, I’ve seen them at the recent SparkCon event Downtown Raleigh. The face painters,  Paint Savvy, did a phenomenal job, one of the best I’ve ever seen.  At the Biergarten stage, I enjoyed a Latin Rock band named Braco, it brought up many memories from back when I was an active bass player and played a very similar style with my band back in Switzerland. I hope you enjoy the pictures , I certainly enjoyed my Saturday afternoon at the International Festival in Raleigh.
